Replacement Cycle

Page address:

Campus Computer Lab and Kiosk Replacement Cycle

Campus Technolgy Support is using a 4 year replacement cycle for computer equipment. Approximately 1/4 of the equipment will be replaced annually. This is about 350 computers yearly. Computers being replaced are moved to other locations to extend their usefulness. Eventually computers are sent to MSU ITS Asset Management for assesment for reuse within MSU. At this point equipment has almost reached the end of it's life cycle and if we are unable to repurpose it on campus it is disposed of per Minnesota State policy which include both securely disposal and recycling.

When replacing computers in an area, the whole area is looked at for improvement. Instructional equipment may be replaced, which may include projection systems, printer & networking. If the area needs enhancements or has safety issues, this will also be looked at, which may include Smart Board, white boards, furniture, handicap accessibility & web cameras.
