Replacement Cycle

Page address:

Academic Technology Replacement Cycle

ACC & Satellite Labs

Replacement of equipment is on a 3 year cycle. Approximately 1/3 of the equipment is replaced annually. This is about 150-200 computers yearly. Computers being replaced are moved to other locations to extend their usefulness. Eventually computers are sent to MSU Inventory office for reuse within MSU or other government agencies. If no other uses are available the equipment is put on the surplus sale, per state regulation. By then equipment is usually 5-7 years old & probably not very usable.

When replacing computers in an area, the whole area is looked at for improvement. Instructional equipment may be replaced: ie. projection systems, printer & networking. If the area needs enhancements or has safety issues, this will also be looked at: ie. Smart Board, white boards, furniture, handicap accessibility & web cameras.
