Academic Computer Center – Policies 1001

The following rules, procedures, and policies are established for the proper operation of the computer labs, and the safety and security of the users. The following list is not an exhaustive list of all rules, policies and procedures; it just reflects those most commonly asked about. ACC rules, policies, and procedure are subject to change without notice as times and conditions change.

1001. A. Supervisor Duties and Responsibilities

I. The primary responsibilities of an ACC Supervisor include, but are not limited to: i) supervise the various daily activities that occur in ACC ii) ensure safety and security within the lab iii) help clean and maintain ACC equipment iv) assist users with technical questions.

II. Supervisors shall try to answer technical questions from users. The Supervisor shall direct a user to another Supervisor or their Senior if they do not feel comfortable with the subject matter. The Supervisor shall not help complete user’s assignments. Instead the Supervisor shall show and explain the procedure to the user.

III. The Supervisor shall handle any problems and report problems to the Senior and/or the Co-Directors.

IV. The Supervisor shall monitor classrooms inside the ACC at all times.

V. The Supervisor shall restrict any user possessing drink, food, and any form of tobacco in the Center, from using ACC equipment.

1001. B. Access Rule

The computers and facilities provided by the ACC are available to all users who meet (but not limited to) the following conditions.

I. User must be either a faculty member, staff or currently enrolled student of MSU.

II. User must have a valid MavMail user name and password to logon to the computers.

1001. C. Room Reservation

Any student/faculty/staff of MSU must follow the procedure below to reserve any room within the ACC.

I. The faculty/staff of MSU must use the online reservation form, in advance, to reserve any room within the ACC. The Office Manager grants access to ACC rooms depending upon the availability.

II. Students who need to use a room in the ACC for practicing their presentations or any other academic purpose shall contact their respective professor to make a request for room reservation as described in part I.

1001. D. Guidelines

The following are basic guidelines to using the ACC equipment and services.

I. Users shall present their MSU MAVMAIL username and password to use any equipment.

II. Users with any form of food, drinks, and tobacco shall not be allowed to enter within the ACC area.

III. Users may use the ACC B/W laser print outs for $.05. User shall be charged $.90 per page for color prints. User is responsible for any error during the print out and shall be charged for it. User shall not be charged if the error is due to failure of the printer such as, but not limited to, faded areas, spots of toner, etc.

IV. Users shall not view pornographic materials, copy copyrighted software, make loud and disruptive noise, or play games.

V. Users are required to follow certain Printing Recommendations

1001. E. Sanction for Violation

Failure to follow above policies and procedures shall be constituted as violation of state and/or federal law as well as MSU policy; and result with possible warning, removal from the ACC, suspension from using MSU facilities, and other penalties.
